Construction height work, Auckland, New Zealand
Who said construction would ever be an easy process? We can run into all sorts of challenges on the way from misplacement of product which can end up in the skip bin or miscommunication between two parties resulting in error of installation.
With so many contractors onsite during the length of a project and the mountains of product and materials within your work areas; here are 3 basics to keep in mind.
1. Safety - some questions to ask are who’s working above me and who’s working below me? These questions can provide valuable information in regards to not only for your own health and safety but the health and safety of others onsite, once we have established these factors we can now exclude work area accordingly accompanied by signage and informing other personnel within that work area including your site manager.
2. Double Handling - quite often we move product and equipment around so many times it feels like chasing your own tail, this comes down to planning; who will be working within your area? how much material will be used? Will a E.W.P and scaffolding be used to complete their scope? These answers will determine where you will start your work, where you will place your material? It won’t be perfect but then nobody is.
3. Weather - one of the most overlooked disruptions within the construction industry is you guessed it - weather conditions, especially here in Auckland we can have four seasons in one day, rain can put work to an halt, wind can effect exterior façade installations, too much sun exposure and heat can result in a sun stroke, we must check weather conditions prior to commencing any exterior work and avoid unnecessary hazards and the health and safety of oneself.
